Interesting article by Baptist Press: “Churchgoers are still tithing, more comfortable doing so outside of church”

    Online Giving

Making a shift to technological giving practices has proven to be a beneficial way to increase church giving. According to an article written by Aaron Earls and published by the Baptist Press, churches that have introduced online giving options have “almost a 30% [monetary donation] increase over those not using it.” Online giving does not act as a replacement for traditional giving through cash or check. Rather, it acts as an additional resource that provides an alternative way to give. Technology has become increasingly significant in the daily functioning of the world, so a giving opportunity that appeals to this advancement is almost necessary. Introducing technology into the world of giving also encourages younger generations to utilize their own technological knowledge to advance the Kingdom by giving in a way that is familiar to them.

The Louisiana Baptist Foundation acknowledges this shift toward technological advancement and new ways of giving. The Foundation has partnered with iDonate to provide an online giving outlet to all Louisiana Baptist churches. Each church is given its own unique web link that allows members of the congregation to give directly to their place of worship. This link can be shared on each church’s social media page, website, or other digital platform. It is free, safe, and convenient!

Sometimes, questions arise regarding the security of online giving. That is why the Louisiana Baptist Foundation has chosen to partner with iDonate, a platform that keeps donor information safe and donations secure. Each unique church link provided by the Foundation contains a built-in SSL Certificate, which keeps all information from donation forms private and secure. Once a donor’s card information is entered into the online giving form, it is submitted through a back-end process and secured by Amazon and Heroku. These two applications ensure that no donations fall through the cracks, as they are able to serve millions of users at once. Next, the donation information goes immediately into a Spreedly Card Token Vault. This organization takes the submitted card information and locks it into a cloud vault. Spreedly then “tokenizes” the credit card information, which means it transforms it into a unique string of letters, numbers, and symbols that is mapped to the Payment Gateway. The data, now encrypted, is sent to the payment processor, which ensures that all donation funds are successfully deposited. From there, the Louisiana Baptist Foundation distributes the funds to the specified church.

The Louisiana Baptist Foundation would love to partner with your church in giving your congregation a new and improved way to give. Contact the Foundation today to access your customized online giving link and help advance Kingdom, one dollar at a time, one ministry at a time, one life at a time.
